Why is it a great weekend?, you may ask. If for no other reason we celebrate our country's birthday, or does that get lost with all the hoopla about fireworks, good food and being with friends and family? Just wondering, how serious are we really about it.
I may be old or older or mature or even aged, as some might say, but in my young days we were a patriotic people. Children learned young to honor our flag and all it stood for. I am still so proud when I see it and remember the early days of my youth. The kind janitor at my little school would proudly raise the flag on the flagpole every morning and at evening would lower it. We felt proud of it displayed in our classroom and always said the pledge every morning. Our teachers taught us patriotic songs. We honored God and our country and so proud to do it. Am I the only one that notices the lack of the same loyalty displayed today? I wonder about these things, and just where we are going. My message would be honor your father and mother, and also God and country.
Happy Birthday USA!
