Summer Days

Oh yes! Very hot with the 90's heating us each day. I love summertime and most of all the memories of my childhood. The days were long and everything was slow moving, way back then. It was days of being outdoors, going barefoot, and letting imaginations take you where ever you wanted to go. In the 40's we were concerned about getting the dreadful "Polio" after one of our school friends was afflicted. Never knowing why, and all the things we were cautioned about not to do to get it. Being children without much to entertain us, our mothers cautioned us about not playing in the dirt, as that might be a source of the disease. Medical advances have been made, whereas, we seldom hear of it in our present day.
We had many concerns as children with  WW11 was upon us at the time. The "lights out",alerts that went on kept us in a constant fear of being maybe bombed. An overhead plane passing in the night was an alarming sound, always in our small minds, caused fear. Everyone knew or had a loved one serving in the military. I remember a soldier came to tell us "bye" before leaving for overseas. I wish I could say he came home alive, but he didn't. I see his grave when I visit my family's graves, always brings memories of how young he was and he gave all for us and  our country.
